Have you thought about how to get involved with the Vocare Ministry? Have you felt called to lead?
The Vocare Steering Committee (VSC) elections for the 2015 – 2016 year are approaching, so it’s time to consider whether you feel called to serve on the VSC. Let’s cover the basics of what it means to serve on Vocare Steering Committee:
Serving on the VSC is a great way to stay involved in Vocare throughout the year and to help ensure that this ministry we all love so much stays healthy and continues to grow. We need passionate people who love Vocare and want to see it continue to succeed, so if that sounds like you, Vocare in Georgia needs you!!
The VSC works to promote Vocare across the state of Georgia, represents the ministry at diocesan events, and helping to spread the word about the Vocare weekend. The ministry has grown so much over the last few years that we’re now also discerning how best to accommodate more pilgrims and how we can help keep the community connected between weekends.
Most positions are one-year positions, though Lay Director and Treasurer are two-year positions. The VSC typically meets 4 times a year in Macon, Georgia, and there will likely be a few web-based meetings sprinkled in between.
Are you interested? If so, let us know! Email Katie Mendrala at email@example.com by June 20th and provide him with the following information: Your name, history with Vocare (pilgrim year and any weekends you’ve served on staff), which VSC position(s) you’re interested in being considered for, and a couple of sentences about why you would like to serve on the VSC. Please note that this information may be posted on the Vocare website and presented at the meeting.
VSC elections will be held on June 27, 2014 during the annual meeting/reunion. You do not have to be present to be elected, but you should come because it’s going to be awesome. If for some reason you are unable to attend, you can still be elected.
If you have any questions that weren’t answered, feel free to contact Emily Stallings, VSC Lay Director, at firstname.lastname@example.org (Questions via Facebook messenger also accepted).
Positions Available for 2015-2016 VSC:
Assistant Lay Director: The Assistant Lay Director assists the Lay Director in preparing for and presiding over meetings. He or she also helps to ensure a report for the Annual Vocare Meeting. This coming year, the Assistant Lay Director will also act as an intra-ministry liaison, connecting our community with other Vocare communities and additional ministries as opportunities arise. This is a one-year position.
Treasurer: The Treasurer shall keep the books and accounts and ensure a report for the Annual Vocare Meeting. This is a two–year position.
Secretary: The Secretary is responsible for ensuring the minutes for each VSC meeting, receiving the weekend evaluations, compiling the data, and presenting that data to the VSC, collecting and presenting the slated nominees at the Annual Vocare Meeting, and correspondence. This is a one-year position.
At Large Members: This year, we’re approaching these important positions a little differently than we have in years past by identifying the needs of the ministry and connecting each “At Large” position with a unique need. All At Large positions are one-year positions. There are four “At Large” members:
At Large – Diocese of Georgia (for a member representing the DOG): The person serving in this position will be the “point person” in the Diocese of Georgia for Vocare. He/she will ensure that the ministry is represented at diocesan events—through speaking engagements and managing the Vocare display table, where possible. Also, this person will proactively connect with local parishes to spread the word about Vocare.
At Large – Diocese of Atlanta (for a member representing the DofA): The person serving in this position will be the “point person” in the Diocese of Atlanta for Vocare. He/she will ensure that the ministry is represented at diocesan events—through speaking engagements and managing the Vocare display table, where possible. Also, this person will proactively connect with local parishes to spread the word about Vocare.
At Large – Communications: Love to blog? Take pictures? Create promotional materials? Make videos? Post like crazy on Facebook? If some, or all, of the above sound like you, then this position is for you! We need someone who loves to communicate and who can help us get the word out via our website, Facebook group and more.
At Large – Local Events: We’re passionate about getting more local events going to keep the community connected in between weekends. The person in this position will be responsible for leading the charge on local events, finding volunteers to host them and helping the hosts with logistics, promotion and more. (Though this person won’t be required to attend all local events…).
